Dear Nelson. In March 1980 as a 19 year old student just finished 2 years military conscription in SADF I first heard your name. "Free who?" I thought, looking at your face on the posters and walked on unaware that 24 years later my wife, my friends and I would be part of a celebrating throng of fellow South Africans walking 10kms to the Bhisho stadium to hear you and see you and above all to show you our joy at your release. When your helicopter arrived its proud engine song was washed away by the stadium's welcoming roar. What a moment to be alive! Happy Birthday from us all.

It was a dream come true when me and my family came to Johannesburg in 2005. Right from my childhood, three things always attracted me to South Africa : Gandhiji, Nelson Mandela and Cricket; and am feeling so privileged being here. But I wish to meet Madhiba, see and greet him - that will fulfill my dream. We wish Madhiba a happy 92nd birthday, and pray God for his healthy and peaceful life so we are inspired for many more years to come.

I sat on top of a street name sign on the Parade on Feb 11 1990, watched and listened to you address our people for the first time as a free man, made my day. To meet you in person a few years later affirmed my beliefs in the great leader you are. Khulu'khokhobe!

I read a saying somewhere that " no man stands
so tall as he who stoops,to help a child "
If i apply that in the context of you,Madiba,
then;No man has stood so tall as you,as you
stooped to help a nation.

I attended one of those so called "black universities" in the late 80's, in my first year I recall the Free Nelson Mandela concert was held in London and some how we managed to cet a copy of the song....Gosh it had to be kept such a secret and listened to in private. You are the father of this nation today, tomorrow and for always....
