Many, many happy returns to you, dear Madiba - thank you for your indomitable spirit, which has inspired the world.

I remember in 1990 when he was released from jail. I was only about 10 yrs old & have heard about this man before but had no idea what he stood for. Well, with time I understood the magnitude of his release which culminated in our first democratic elections. Through the years I followed his life, read his books, read his speeches & to this day I thank the Lord that we have been given the opportunity to have had him as a leader, father, an icon & the world's greatest statesman. Happy b'day Tata. Ga gona yo a swanago le wena. Continue enjoying your retirement.

The day Madiba arrived at the nurseery school in Bosmont, near R W Fick Secondary. The staff of the creche had to keep his visit, however, word got out and the learners went crazy. In their excitement they pushed down the fence of the school. We could not come near Madiba, however,I felt his presence and could feel an absolute calmness within me. He brings about peace, love and humility. That's a day that will forever be imprinted in my heart.

I only ever saw Madiba once when I was a kid and he was still President of our beautiful land.My school had taken us to Kings Park Stadium in KZN where he was giving some talk and I can remember that stadium was absolutely packed.Was great being in the presence of such a great man, even though at the time as a kid you didnt appreciate what he stood for but just admired him.Happy Birthday Madiba
